I’ve logged quite a few hours this weekend testing the new servers. I have the new mail server up in test mode. The load averages look fantastic with my data simulations! I was surprised to see the dual Xeons with Hyperthreading showing up as 4 processors in top.

The first new SAM server is looking promising as well. I am planning to run NT4 on these SAM servers, but I ran into driver problems becasuse Dell doesn’t support NT4 on the PE1750. Google is my friend, and all seems right with the old software now. We currently have 2 SAM databases with raw sizes of 2.92GB and 1.31GB. The current servers are Dell PE 1300’s with a single PIII 700 & 512MB RAM. Current index times are 47 & 25.9 minutes with a zip time of 10.4 and 7.3 minutes.

The new results on the larger database are an index time of 17.8 minutes and a zip time of 4.1 minutes. This is almost identical to my expected result. I’m hoping to improve this another 5 percent or so by tweaking the HD drivers.
